Revival Of Nalanda 's Ruins

Francis  Buchaman     had  earlier   seen  the  place  in  1812,but  he  was  unable  to  identify  it. regular  excavations  started  in 1916  and  with  the  untiring efforts  of  prof.  Hiranand  Shastri for  two  decades ,the  mighty  and  majestic  Nalanda  resurfaced  from  the womb  of  mother earth. It  is  now  popularly  known as  The  Ruins  Of  Nalanda  University.Like  Bodhisattva,  Mahahihara  was reborn  with the  word 'Naval'preceding the  nomenclature  through the  dedication of  ven. Bhikshu Jagdish Kashyapin  1951.  It  was nourished  and  looked after well  byhis worthy  successors. Students  and  scholars from  India and  foreign countries are  seen  engrossed in their studies , meditation and  spiritual elevation.A good  reference  library ,several important publications of  the institute,  digital  edition  of  the Tripikas , indepth  study  Buddhism  with the  help of   original Prakritsa  and  Sanskrit texts  ,decipherment  and  old  and obsecure  scripts are  some  of  the  commendable  achievements  of  the  Nava  Nalanda   Mahavihara  .
This  resurgence  is  also  marked  by  taking  over  of  the Xuanzang ( popularly  named  as  Huensang) Memorial   which seems  to  be  vibrated  with  the  saintly  and scholarly  sentiments of  the great  Chinese  pilgrim .His contribution towards understanding  and  furtherance  of  Bhuddhist
thought  in  the  world  is as  meritorious  as  of any Indian  Buddhihst  Acharya  who  went  abroad with  the  torch  of  India's great cultural,  religious and  educational    heritage.Once  the  haunted  place  and  probihited  for  a  decent   visitor,Nalanda  is  actually  the  Mahavihara  had  not  only  been  a  great  seat  of  learning   ,but  it also became a  centre  of  culture  and  civilitisation.  Buddhism  was  studied here  in all  its branches .But  the  comparative study  of non  buddhist thoughts  and  culture  too  had been studied  here thoroughly  .

The  fame  of  this  university  spread  throughout Asia  .Scholars from  different  parts  of  Asiaspecially  from  China,  Tibet , Japan,  Korea, Mongolia,  Bhutan Indonesia ,Malaysia  ,and  central  Asia  came  over  her e  for  the  indepth  study  of  Buddhism ..
